It is now being suggested that Premier League giants Manchester United rejected the opportunity to bring back former striker Dimitar Berbatov to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, to solve the striker crisis at hand. The claims were part of a report from the Sunday edition of The Sun. Manager Louis van Gaal would not have been too pleased with the way things have been going up front, though signing Anthony Martial from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco has given them a new flare.
The Red Devils lacked more attacking options with players leaving the club on loans or permanently and various big names were linked to sign for them as well. However, the Dutchman did not sign any of those stars and opted for a young 19-year-old French striker, who was not known to many back then.
Further, it has been revealed that the former Bulgarian international’s agent approached United this summer, though they did not seem really keen on bringing him back to England and Berbatov later signed for Greek side PAOK instead.
