WOW, That Was Fast! Arsenal’s First January Signing Almost Confirmed

Arsene Wenger doesn’t often spend money in the transfer market, but when he does, it makes heads turn simply because of his history of signing unknown names and turning them into superstars.

The Gunners are set to make FC Basel’s Mohamed Elneny their first signing of the upcoming transfer window for a deal believed to $8 Million. The Daily Mail has reported that the Egyptian midfielder has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal and would make the move at the beginning of January. The purchase of the 23 year old midfielder should mean the end of transfer speculation linking William Carvalho and Lars Bender with Arsenal.

Elneny’s prefers to play as a holding midfielder and can add ably to the attack as well as the defense. He has featured 28 times for FC Basel in all competitions this season, in the process bagging 6 goals and 2 assists. The Egyptian international (he has featured 40 times for them) is believed to be more than a stop gap arrangement for the injury problems being experienced by the club and would become the fulcrum of the Arsenal side going forward, according to many.
