Premier League champions Chelsea are now being strongly linked with a move for 27 year old right-back Gregory van der Wiel, according to French newspaper Le Parisien. It was being reported that the Blues are one of the top clubs in the chase to sign the Dutch international, including their league rivals Manchester United who have wanted to him as well.
The defensive superstar has more than 40 caps for the national side and the paper say that the west London side wanted to add him directly to their first team.
The Dutchman would replace Serb Branislav Ivanovic, who has had a poor start to the current season against Swansea City.
The Serbian international would surely compete for the spot in Jose Mourinho’s back-line which would eventually help the club.
It was also previously stated that Ligue 1 champs Paris Saint-Germain wanted to sell and the west London side would look to capitalize on this situation.
Jose Mourinho would be disappointed with the pre-season games and how the season has begun for his team, but will look to add more quality players before the transfer window closes. This is what Van Der Wiel brings to the side
