Wow! Arsene Wenger Makes A Bold Statement On Striker Issues

Arsene Wenger

In a recent interview, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has denied that he misled the fans about the severity of England international Danny Welbeck’s injury. The striker will not feature for the Gunners until Christmas due to a knee injury that he suffered, though the French manager has insisted that he spoke the truth to the media on 27th August, when he said that the former Manchester United man was “progressing well”.

Wenger stated, “I am surprised that people accused me of lying. I did not know Welbeck had had a bad setback.”

“I gave you the information I had. I did not lie to you.”

Wenger was hopeful that Welbeck would have been fit after the recent international break, but that changed after his weekly Friday news conference. He said, “I heard late on Friday night [27 August] that his condition had not evolved as well as we thought.”

“He had needed specialist and needed further investigation.”

The north London side revealed details of the extent of the injury suffered by the 24-year old forward after the transfer window shut on Tuesday, 1st September, yet did not add another attacker this summer.

Responding to the criticism, Wenger added, “The solutions we had were not convincing at all. I have made more than 300 transfers and every time it’s a decision to make.”

“You either find someone who strengthens your squad or not. Whether we have players injured or not doesn’t change the problem, You also have to be brave enough to say no.”
