Real Madrid 3-1 Getafe: Ronaldo Scores A Brace As Los Blancos Return To Winning Ways
Real Madrid thumped Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu to get back to winning ways. They beat the mid-table side 3-1, with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo registering their names on the score sheet. The latter scored in both halves and has now completed 300 La Liga goals.
While Ronaldo has done it in 286 appearances, his arch-rival Messi achieved the same in 334 outings. Unfortunately, his 34th La Liga hat-trick was chalked off by a wrong offside call. Though Getafe pulled one back through a Francisco Portillo penalty, a late header from Ronaldo put the game to bed.
Los Blancos never looked like getting beaten in this clash, as they continued to press and showcase their high tempo, dynamic football. Gareth Bale too almost doubled his tally but was denied by the frame of the goal. The Galacticos have found their rhythm back before an all-important contest with PSG and are now four points clear of Valencia for the time being.
Real Madrid Player Ratings
Keylor Navas: 7/10
Grabbed the ball convincingly, made his routine stops and was safe. However, was sent the wrong way by Portillo (for the penalty).
Dani Carvajal: 8/10
Created his footmarks in the final third of the pitch many a time as he streamed forward and added his bit to the attack. Defensively, he closed down players well and won the ball back sharply.
Won his duels and was a towering presence at the back. Unfortunate to have conceded the penalty as he won the ball cleanly.
Sergio Ramos: 7.5/10
Left a few zones wide open at times but that’s expected from an attack-minded centre-back like Ramos. Otherwise, he was rather solid.
Theo Hernandez: 7/10
Didn’t make too many errors, didn’t do too much going forward either. Although he lacked the urgency, he was defensively solid.
Broke off his lines, closed players down, gained possession back and supported the forward play.
Marcos Llorente: 7/10
Safe and effective with his passing and defensive presence, but was more sideways than forward minded.
Gareth Bale: 8.5/10
It just shows how dangerous and deadly Bale can be on the wings. He was absolutely on fire. Bale charged forward, took defenders on, complemented Benzema and Ronaldo and broke the deadlock with a fine finish.
Isco lost possession too many times, failed to exploit the space offered to him and often rushed into making a hawk-eye pass when something more fruitful was in front of him. Out of his right attempts to complete a key pass, the Spaniard dispatched only one.
Cristiano Ronaldo: 9/10
The usual command from Ronaldo just helped Madrid march on further. He showed quick feet, shifted the ball to either side and rifled home two sweet finishes. It almost looked like he had every single dribble, take on and run of his charted out.
Karim Benzema: 8/10
Yet again, sacrificed his position and runs in order to feed Ronaldo. Benzema provided an uncluttered assist to Ronaldo and was brilliant throughout the game.
Brought about the change as soon as he entered. Marcelo added quality and energy down the left and assisted Ronaldo for the third.
Mateo Kovacic: 6/10
Sat back and defended. Didn’t get too involved in the match due to less number of minutes on the pitch.
Marco Asensio: 6/10
Played one inch-perfect cross but nothing else to show otherwise.
