Wolves signing this experienced PL brick wall would be a massive coup by Nuno Espirito Santo – opinion

Wolves opinion: Nuno Santo wants Nicolas Otamendi – a good move?

The Birmingham Live has reported that Manchester City star Nicolas Otamendi is open to a move away and Wolverhampton Wanderers lead the race. Contracted to Manchester City until 2022, the Argentine star has struggled to make an impact this season, with the rise of Aymeric Laporte.

The former Athletic Bilbao defender arrived in the winter of 2018 and spent the first six months in Otamendi’s shadow. However, this season, things have changed and Laporte has taken over the first-team spot, playing alongside John Stones.

This has seen Otamendi play only 43% of Premier League games this season, missing the first four games of the season.

The Argentine has missed games against Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United and even Chelsea this season. This has further disillusioned him, which has led to the interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are in fantastic shape for a newly promoted Premier League side. Wolves have been playing extremely well this season, and they currently sit in the final Europa League spot at the moment.

However, if they do keep up the pace as we enter the final few games of the season, it would mean more games next season. That would pose a small problem for the Molineux side, as they would not want to end up like Burnley.

The Clarets too finished in the final Europa League spot last season and have struggled to make an impact this season. Sean Dyche and his men sit just two points above the relegation zone, and that is something that Nuno Espirito Santo should keep in mind.

However, adding someone like Nicolas Otamendi will change things, and the fact that Jorge Mendes is involved will help a move. The super-agent also happens to manage Espirito Santo, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and a few other players at Wolves.

This has helped the club in the past and the relationship between Nuno Espirito Santo and Otamendi would also help them. The two have worked together in the past at Porto.

Since then, Nicolas Otamendi has grown leaps and bounds, improving even more under Pep Guardiola and gaining experience in the Champions League. That will prove to be a big thing next season and it makes the move a no-brainer.

Conclusion

For both Wolves and Nuno Espirito Santo, there are a myriad of players that they can target next season but one man they have to look at is Nicolas Otamendi.

He would undoubtedly be an asset to the club and is someone who can lead them into the future.
