Wolves signing this €40m goal machine would make them a dangerous European force next season – opinion

Wolves opinion: Should Nuno Santo make a move for Moussa Marega?

One of the season’s biggest shocks, Wolverhampton Wanderers have proven to be more than capable of surviving the Premier League. But after their performances in the Championship last season, many expected them to survive but few expected them to thrive.

They are on course to finish in a Europa League spot. It seems that Leicester City have raised the bar as to what newly promoted sides should set their goals at and Wolves have followed suit.

That being said, the club does not have the squad depth to be able to survive a 50 game season. That’s what qualifying for the Europa League effectively brings and one that has seen better sides collapse and do so badly.

The Molineux stadium side need reinforcements and it seems that they’ve already started looking for new stars, with ESPN and the Bristol Post reporting as such.

Their top target, however, is Moussa Marega, with the Bristol Post reporting that they’ve marked interest in the Porto striker. The Mirror has reported that the club have submitted a genuine bid.

The report further adds that Marega’s €40million release clause means nothing to the club and they’ve submitted an offer which is lower than that.

It’s no surprise, given just how crucial the 28-year-old striker has been to Porto’s plans this season. He’s already netted 20 goals this season and added a further 11 assists in all competitions.

For Wolverhampton Wanderers and their style of play, Moussa Marega would be a great addition to their squad. A well-built forward, the 28-year-old is very quick off the mark and combines that with great strength both on and off the ball.

A lot like Raul Jimenez in many ways, the only difference between the two is Marega’s pace. Furthermore, his aggression and never say die attitude will serve him very well in the Premier League if a move does take place.

But with Wolves probably fighting a Europa League battle alongside their Premier League one, a move has to be made.

Conclusion

A talented striker, it’s time for the 28-year-old to move on from Porto and try another challenge, which is exactly what Wolverhampton Wanderers are.

For Wolves, however, a move for Moussa Marega will help them deal with the Europa League and maybe even with the Premier League, when Jimenez has an off day.
