According to a report in Daily Mail, former Real Madrid defender Pepe has now been released by his latest club Besiktas, making him a free agent. He has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with newly-promoted side Wolves interested in the Portuguese.
The 35-year-old shares the same agent Jorge Mendes with current Old Gold players Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota. Hence, the possibility of a move is pretty much on the cards.
The player’s wage demands seems to be around £100,000-a-week, which might be the stopping factor of this deal. However, here’s why Nuno Espirito Santo’s men should do everything to get the former Champions League winner:
Wolves have made a fantastic start to their season under new grounds in the Premier League. They are seventh in the table and without a doubt, one of the best newly-promoted teams in the division. Nuno’s men play an attractive brand of football which is well-secured at the back.
The trio of Conor Coady, Willy Boly and Ryan Bennett have done an imperious job at the back along with the two wing-backs Matt Doherty and Jonny/Ruben Vinagre.
Yet, getting an experienced backup in Pepe would be an ideal thing for the club. The 35-year-old can not only fight for a place in the team, but also help the players in tough situations as he has all sorts of experience in his kitty.
The ex-Madrid centre-back has won several major honours in his illustrious career, including the Champions League, the La Liga and the Euros. He is a quality player with an abundance of positive and negative experiences at his disposal.
Wolves have a few Portuguese players in their lineup and it is easy to understand that they would welcome the addition of the 35-year-old. The team will become strong and rounded in terms of having the know-how.
Given the current situation, the Old Gold should aim for a top-ten finish and anything above that would be a bonus. The season is long and the more quality they have, the better it is for the development of the team.

Hence, everything is pointing towards the Molineux outfit making a move for Pepe. The wage would be a concern but if the output is taken into account, the money should be a secondary thing.
