Wolves signing this 11-goal Championship hotshot would massively reduce reliance on Jimenez

Why Wolves should plot a January swoop for Karlan Grant

According to a report from The Sun, Wolves are interested in signing Huddersfield Town striker Karlan Grant.

The striker, 22, only joined Huddersfield Town back in January in a £2million deal from Charlton Athletic, and with 11 goals in 19 appearances, Karlan Grant is one of the hottest strikers in the Championship.

He has played a starring role in the Terriers’ recent rejuvenation under Danny Cowley. With the 22-year-old currently impressing in the English second-tier, Wolves must make a move to sign him during the January transfer window.

Wolves moved back up to fifth place in the Premier League table on Wednesday evening with a deserved 2-0 win over West Ham at Molineux. The result meant the Wanderers made it 10 games unbeaten in the top-flight and they are now fifth in the table, two points above sixth-placed Manchester United.

The Midlands club are aiming to break into the top four this season, and with them competing in Europe as well, Nuno Espirito Santo should look to add a couple of players in January. Wolves are over-reliant on Raul Jimenez for goals, with the Mexican star netting 15 goals already across all competitions this season.

Jimenez is one of the most reliable and complete forwards in the Premier League, but he has lacked a bit of support from the likes of Jota and Patrick Cutrone.

Jota, who had an excellent 2018/19 season, has been in and out of the team this term, while Cutrone is yet to settle in English football. Thus, Nuno should look forward to signing a striker in January and Karlan Grant would be a good fit at the Molineux.

Grant is a natural striker who comes alive in the box. According to WhoScored.com, the 22-year-old has an average of 2.2 shots, 1.4 key passes and a pass success rate of 74%.

He will only get better with age as he would get a lot of playing time at Wolves. The former Charlton man could be deployed alongside Jimenez up front, and there might be chances for him to be the difference in the team.

Verdict

The addition of Grant to the Wolves squad in January would help them push for a place in the top four. At the age of 22, the striker has massive potential and could truly unlock it under an astute tactician like Nuno Espirito Santo.
