Wolves signing this 26-year-old English star would make them immensely strong at the back next season

Wolves opinion: Should Nuno Santo sign James Tarkowski?

According to a report from the Times, Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to battle it out with Leicester City for the signature of Burnley’s James Tarkowski in the summer.

The 26-year-old is touted as a replacement for Harry Maguire if he leaves the Foxes in the summer but Wolves should swoop in before.

Wolves are set for a long and daunting Europa League campaign if they can go through the qualifying rounds to get into the competition. Nuno Santo’s side will have an early start to their campaign due to the qualifiers, which is sure to have an impact on players’ performances later on in the season.

Burnley suffered the exact same problem last season, who despite not getting through the qualifying rounds, struggled to replicate their previous season heroics in the Premier League.

Wolves have a considerably thinner squad than the Clarets and if they fail to address that this summer, they could end up in the same place as their rivals.

Nuno Santo has received a ton of plaudits for the performances of the likes of Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota in their attack but their defence deserves a lot more credit than they have been given for last season.

Willy Boly, Conor Coady and Ryan Bennett have formed a truly formidable partnership in Wolves’ three-man defence but injury or suspension to any one of them could expose the club massively. Wolves definitely need more competition to bring the best out of their players and James Tarkowski will do just that.

The 26-year-old Englishman has arguably been Burnley’s best player this season and his performances have got the attention of Wolves. The Wanderers will not have it easy to bring him in, especially with their settled backline.

However, the temptation of playing in European competitions could prove to be the difference and Wolves should take full advantage of the situation to bring him to the Molineux ahead of the Foxes this summer.

Tarkowski can comfortably hit the ground running, thanks to his Premier League experience and Wolves will massively benefit with his addition, both in the Premier League as well as in the Europa League next season.

James Tarkowski is one of England’s best defenders at the moment and Wolves is the perfect club for him to showcase his skills, both domestically and in Europe next season. Wolves should make it a point to sign him ahead of their fellow rivals Leicester in the summer.
