Why Wolves must go all out to sign Colombian sensation Juan Quintero

Newly-promoted Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers are considering making an ambitious move to sign Colombia star Juan Quintero this summer, as per reports from the Mirror.

Wolves have been active in the transfer market since their return to the top-flight. The Midlands club have already signed Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio and Mexican striker Raul Jimenez on loan. In addition to that, they have also signed the likes of Willy Boly, Leo Bonatini, Ruben Vinagre and Diogo Jota on a permanent basis.

Now, manager Nuno Espirito Santo must build a side capable of putting up a strong challenge in the top-tier. And to aid their quest, Quintero could be a good option.

The 25-year-old is on the books of Portuguese club, FC Porto. Although he joined them back in 2013 from Pescara, Quintero has spent a large chunk of the past three years away on loan. He spent the 2015/16 campaign with Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais and the attacking midfielder was with Colombian outfit Independiente Medellin from January to December last year.

Quintero is on now serving a year-long loan spell with Argentine giants River Plate, having joined them in January earlier this year. He has played 16 times for the club, chipping in with a solitary goal and three assists. As far as his parent club are concerned, Quintero has appeared 64 times, chipping in with 7 strikes and 11 assists.

Currently in Russia with the Colombian national team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Quintero has emerged as one of their star players in the summer extravaganza. So far in his three appearances in Russia, the 25-year-old has netted one goal and set up two more for his teammates.

The diminutive midfielder has been the biggest creative threat for the Colombians, often causing problems with his exquisite technique and excellent vision. The attacking midfielder thrives in the spaces between the lines in the final third and is known for picking apart defences with his precise passes.

Quintero possesses a bagful of skills and tricks with the ball at his feet and he excels in one-on-one situations. His close-control, coupled with the natural ability to split open teams, make him quite an asset.

The player has had disciplinary issues in the past but lately, Quintero appears to have mended his ways and is certainly on the right track.

A player with such skills and talents would prove to be a wonderful addition for Wolves. The 25-year-old has plenty of experience and he performs well under pressure. With his mental attitude and qualities with the ball, he has the potential to be a brilliant player for Wolves. Hence, the club must sign him this summer.
