The Sun has reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on making a move for Morgan Sanson. Currently contracted to Marseille, the 24-year-old has been in good form for the Ligue 1 side, playing a big role in their performances this season.
The Molineux Stadium side are clearly looking to reinforce their midfield and the Frenchman is a potential target. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has added Leander Dendoncker, Ruben Neves and even Joao Moutinho to the club but he needs more.
Barring the above-mentioned trio, the club have Roman Saiss and Morgan Gibbs-White. Saiss has not impressed at all, regressing over the past six months or so, while Gibbs-White is only 19 years old.
The English midfielder is talented but he needs time to adapt to the Premier League despite showcasing his ability over the last few months. That means, in the mean time, the club needs a buffer and that is exactly what Morgan Sanson can become.
A talented midfielder, the 24-year-old is versatile enough to play all across the midfield, including the flank. However, where he truly does well is as a roaming number 8, which is essentially Joao Moutinho’s role at the club.
Like the former Monaco man, Sanson is immensely creative. But, unlike Moutinho, Sanson is also a ball-winner, which is why he flourishes in the midfield.
Morgan Sanson’s blend of athleticism and physicality would help him survive in the Premier League and this makes him great for Wolves. A rare combination of creativity and ball-winning ferocity adds to his value and will see him slot right into the team.
Furthermore, Sanson could provide cover for Ruben Neves or even replace the 22-year-old Portuguese if a move to either Liverpool (Mirror) or Manchester City (Guardian) ever goes through.
The Frenchman has added consistency to his game. So far, he’s failed to score too many goals over the course of his career but has managed to produce 8 goals in all competitions.
This is by far one of his more productive seasons but it’s not his best, with Sanson finishing last season with 9 goals and 4 assists in all competitions.
