Wolves have completed one of the best deals of the summer by extending this £2m star’s contract – Agreed?

Wolves Opinion: Ruben Vinagre’s new deal is a strong statement of intent from the club

According to Express and Star, Portuguese starlet Ruben Vinagre has signed a new five-year deal with Wolves, which should secure his long-term future at the Molineux until the summer of 2024.

Vinagre had plenty of time remaining on his existing contract but Wolves were quick to offer him fresh terms and secure his future following the 20-year-old’s impressive run of form in the Premier League last season.

The Portuguese youth international, who initially joined Wolves on loan from Monaco in the summer of 2017, was a part of the promotion-winning side that bagged the EFL Championship title in the 2017-18 season.

Vinagre’s rapid progress prompted Wolves to make his stay permanent for a fee of £2million upon securing promotion to the Premier League last summer and the Portuguese youngster once again reminded everybody as to why he is held in such high regard.

The 20-year-old had absolutely no problems making the step up to the top-flight last season and did exceptionally well in his role as an understudy to Jonny Otto Castro at left wing-back.

Vinagre wasn’t a regular starter but he did not disappoint the fans when manager Nuno Santo was forced to play a gamble on him during Jonny’s spell on the sidelines. The youngster made a total of 17 appearances in the Premier League the last term, including 10 cameos off the bench as a substitute.

The Portuguese starlet was a regular for the domestic cup games, though, with the 20-year-old making 4 appearances in the club’s FA Cup and League Cup campaigns. In all competitions, Vinagre made a total of 21 appearances and earned rave reviews for his energetic displays in his debut campaign in the top-flight.

Meanwhile, Wolves are yet to flex their muscles in the summer transfer window this term after 12 months of heavy spending upon promotion to the Premier League.

However, with the club set to compete in the Europa League after an incredible return to the top-flight, one would expect them to complete a few signings over the next couple of weeks before the deadline.

Wolves continue to be linked with several high-profile players from some of the top leagues in Europe but the club has shown the desire to hold on to the existing talent in their ranks, as evident from their decision to offer Vinagre a new deal.

Still very much in the developmental phase of his career at 20, the new contract should be a massive confidence-booster for the starlet and certainly a promise of better things to come in the future.

As well as that, the new deal for Vinagre is a vote of confidence from the management in the player’s talent and potential and a clear statement of intent from Wolves that they are going to do everything in a bid to hold on to their emerging prospects.
