Why Daniele Rugani would be a fantastic signing for Wolves

According to a report from The Times, Wolves have tabled a £30million offer for Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal.

Daniele Rugani, 25, has been told he can find a new club after Juventus signed Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax earlier this summer.

The 25-year-old has been down the pecking order for years now despite being one of Italy’s top prospects, thanks to the presence of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.

Wolves are in the hunt for the defender’s signature and their offer is set to gazump Arsenal’s two-year loan proposal, the report adds. They are in need of fresh faces for next season and Rugani would be a smart addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The Wanderers completed the signing of Azerbaijani striker Renat Dadashov from Portuguese side Estoril on Tuesday, but the 20-year-old will spend the 2019/20 season back in Portugal on loan at Pacos de Ferreira.

Wolves are a quality side but they need more strength in depth after advancing to the next round of the European qualifiers. One of the primary reasons for the Wanderers’ rich success this past season was their well-drilled defence.

In Conor Coady, Willy Boly and Ryan Bennett, Nuno had a settled back-three that was very difficult for the teams to breach.

Despite adding Vallejo, Nuno should still bring in another defender to strengthen his defensive options. That should prompt the Wolves manager to splash the cash to sign Daniele Rugani from Juventus.

Rugani would be an upgrade on all three of Ryan Bennett, Willy Boly and Conor Coady – certainly in terms of playing out from the back.

He is a player who remains calm even in the toughest of situations and prefers to stay on his feet. His positioning and match awareness allows him to be at the right place and at the right time.

The 25-year-old’s strength, combined with his technical abilities, make him a good defender and he is among Italy’s top defensive prospects. All in all, Rugani has all the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League.

Verdict

A move to the Premier League could very well turn out to be a great step for the Juventus defender to reboot his stuttering career. Potentially, he could be what Wolves need to help them break into the top six.
