Why Watford Should Offer New Contract To Etienne Capoue
Former Spurs midfielder Etienne Capoue joined Watford in 2015 after spending just two seasons at White Hart Lane. The Frenchman has barely seen any game time this season with just over 3 hours of on-field action under manager Marco Silva for the Hornets.
The 29-year-old featured regularly for the Hornets in his first two seasons and has been one of the club’s key players since their promotion to the Premier League.
While Capoue regularly started under both Quique Sanchez Flores and Walter Mazzarri, he hasn’t had the same luck under Marco Silva. Capoue’s lack of game of time this season purely comes down to Marco Silva, with Portuguese manager preferring Abdoulaye Doucouré, who has been brilliant so far this season.
But his limited game time could possibly be down due to a training ground bust up between himself and Marco Silva in Watford’s behind-closed-doors friendly defeat against Rangers.
Etienne Capoue is undoubtedly a talented player and one of the best players available in the Watford squad. The Frenchman’s biggest problem has been his inconsistency and if he can improve on that, there is no reason why he can’t start regularly for the Hornets.
Keeping the summer drama aside, Watford should waste no time in offering the midfielder a new contract, with the Frenchman in the final two years of contract with Watford and looking to extend his contract with the club further.
He told Standard Sport: “I want to stay here. I have two more years and I feel good at the club.
“It is up to me. If I’m doing well on the pitch, I will stay here. If I’m not good and someone plays in my place, maybe they will put me out. This is football, but I want to remain at Watford.

Capoue clearly cares about his future and wants to continue playing for the Watford for several years and the Hornets should not risk upsetting a player of his ability.
One or two injuries and Watford will find themselves in trouble and it only makes sense that they offer Capoue a new contract and keep hold of one of their most talented players.
