Sky Sports has revealed that Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic would like a move to Inter Milan in the summer and with the Daily Mail also revealing that Chelsea are among the suitors. The Croatian midfielder has been among Barcelona’s key stars since his move from Sevilla, growing and growing ever since to become one of the best in his position.
Arsenal should try and swoop in for the 30-year-old’s signature and ignore his age during negotiations. Despite being 30 years old, Rakitic still remains a world-class star and if Arsenal do get a chance to nab one of Unai Emery’s former players, it should be the midfield maestro.
The Gunners severely lack someone like Rakitic in their side and while Granit Xhaka has done a relatively decent job, Emery needs someone more reliable defensively.
While the Croatian star is a central midfielder by trade, his wonderful brand of football allows him to play anywhere in the middle of the park.
While a move might be tough given that Barcelona might be unwilling to sell one of their best players, the arrival of Frenkie De Jong might ease that.
This along with Arthur Melo, effectively ensures the future of their midfield for the next decade and it gives Barcelona a chance to offload Rakitic. Arsenal should make sure they sign Rakitic if they ever get a chance to do so as it would massively increase their quality.
Moreover, Arsenal do have the advantage that Unai Emery has worked with Rakitic before. If a move is made, then it would be great for Ivan Rakitic and more so for Arsenal given that Aaron Ramsey is departing the club.
The Gunners need another dynamic midfielder and while Ivan Rakitic won’t provide the same dynamism that Ramsey did, the Croatian would another dimension to Arsenal’s style of play, which is greatly needed.
It’s a no-brainer for Unai Emery to sign Ivan Rakitic from Barcelona.
