With just 6 goals in 8 games, Southampton must sign this out of favour Watford star in January

Why Southampton should make a move for Isaac Success

Southampton have made another abysmal start to their season, with the South Coast club picking up just 5 points from their opening 8 games of the campaign. The Saints were agonisingly close to facing the drop last season, but held their nerve to maintain their status as a Premier League outfit.

Manager Mark Hughes did bring in a couple of reinforcements in the summer, but most of them have so far failed to make a significant impact. On-loan Liverpool striker Danny Ings has made a bright start to life at the St. Mary’s, with the English forward picking up 3 goals in 7 league appearances this season.

But the Saints have otherwise looked lacklustre going forward and seem to be struggling to find the back of the net. Mark Hughes’ side have managed just 6 goals this season, making them one of the lowest scoring teams in the league.

The likes of Manolo Gabbiadini, Shane Long and Charlie Austin have all failed hit top form this season and that is exactly why the Saints could use another hitman. Mark Hughes should take a look at Watford striker Isaac Success.

Though not the most explosive of strikers, the Nigerian international often tends to deliver when given the opportunity. The 22-year-old made the move to England from La Liga outfit Granada in 2016 but he has since been restricted to just 23 league appearances for the Hornets, scoring just 1 goal.

The striker was sent on loan to Malaga towards the second half of last season and has made a decent start to his season this time out.

The Nigerian striker has made 8 substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, failing to find the back of the net. But he did score 2 goals in 2 League Cup appearances, with both of those goals coming in the same game. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Success possesses the drive and energy in the final third. He’s also got the pace needed to take on defenders. The 22-year-old possesses impressive dribbling ability on the ball as well.

An ideal striker who is strong in the air and is very comfortable passing the ball around in the final third. The Watford man has averaged a pass success rate of 81.6% in the league this season. He would definitely provide more threat for the Saints going front. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Mark Hughes should definitely make the move for Isaac Success when the transfer window opens in January. The manager can offload Manolo Gabbiadini and use the funds to lure the Nigerian.

He will not only receive regular match time at the South Coast but will also have the right kind of development under Hughes.
