With Granit Xhaka’s inability to dominate the midfield, here is why Arsenal should turn their attention towards this powerful Serie A star

Arsenal FC Opinion – Why Arsenal should sign Steven N’Zonzi in the summer window

According to a report in Mirror (h/t Calciomercato), Arsenal are keen to sign Roma midfielder Steven N’Zonzi in the summer transfer window. The Italian outlet also suggests that the Gunners’ arch-rivals Tottenham could also join the race in due course of time.

It is understood that the player would be happy to return to England, where he played for Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City before moving to Spain.

However, with Roma’s Monchi linked with a move to Arsenal for the role of director of football, N’Zonzi’s move could take a singular path turn towards Arsenal.

Steven N’Zonzi

The Frenchman was bought by the Italian club from Sevilla last summer to add experience to their midfield. In spite of that, a move could take place in few months time.

Here’s why Arsenal should sign N’Zonzi:

The Frenchman would add more substance

Arsenal have hit a roadblock in the past month or two, after making a progressive start to life under Unai Emery. It is almost as if the lack of quality in the squad is starting to tell the real story and the manager is doing a fantastic job to keep in the race to finish in the top-four or win the Europa League.

The Gunners’ board haven’t been helpful when it comes to spending money in the transfer windows, which was highlighted when Emery had to speak in public about the lack of money the club had during the January transfer window.

For a club that yearns to fight for the title and play Champions League football regularly, they need to spend more and help the manager with his long-term project.

Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi have been fantastic additions to the team in midfield, but Granit Xhaka continues to under-perform and flatter to deceive.

Steven N’Zonzi

Hence, Arsenal would do well by signing a midfielder who can dominate games in central areas of the pitch and be a commanding presence in all aspects of his game.

That being said, Steven N’Zonzi is an ideal option for the Gunners in the coming transfer window. The Frenchman has the quality to be a better exponent of what Arsenal have got in the midfield, possesses Premier League experience and has already worked with Emery. Thus, the integration process from the tactical point of view wouldn’t take much time.

All the above-mentioned facts relate to the justification as to why the Gunners require someone like N’Zonzi in their for the upcoming seasons. They should complete this deal before any other potential suitor, namely Tottenham, come in between.
