The season is finally over for Manchester United, and the fans will be taking a huge sigh of relief. The devils of the Manchester managed to finish their campaign on the 5th spot of the Barclays Premier League table, and will be preparing for the Europa League show the next season.
The transfer window is approaching, and many names will be linked to the side. After missing on Renato Sanches, the side will be looking to sign a perfect midfielder who can solve their attacking disability. United has been very poor in terms of attacking intent and has broken their own record of the lowest goal tally in a single season since 2002/03.
With an uncertainty on manager’s future, the team will surely face a down time in the following transfer window. The name that is continuously linked with a move to Manchester United is Valencia’s midfielder, Andre Gomes.
Valencia didn’t have a very good season in the La Liga as they finished 12 on the table, but Gomes was one of the finest performers in the side. As we all are aware of the fact that Manchester United is in a state of transition where many ins and outs are necessary, in that case, can Andre Gomes deliver a perfect outcome to the side?
Reports are saying that Manchester United are very close to finalize the deal, and as Valencia will not be playing the European competition, the 22-year-old Portuguese will be tempted to make a move. Looking at Manchester United’s side, the team has Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger for the central zone. Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger had a forgettable campaign with the side this season while Carrick’s future with the devils is still uncertain. Looking at this situation, United must go for Gomes as he has his age to his side, as well as his technical abilities that can help the team in near future.
A Perfect European Stage-
The Portuguese midfielder is a gifted footballer whose ability to read the games makes him more special. Unlike Carrick and Schneiderlin, he has the ability to dribble past the defenders, and speaking honestly, Manchester United don’t have anyone like him besides Anthony Martial who plays in a totally different position. Besides this, Gomes has a very impressive physique through which, he can settle down in the Premier League quickly. Furthermore, his versatility allows him to play anywhere in the central midfield, and playing with a club like Manchester United will only make him stronger than ever.
So the question remains, if Manchester United is able to sign this Portuguese midfielder, how and the manager will deploy him?
This season, Manchester United never had any problems in controlling the game, the team was actually one of the best in terms of possession, but what the fans observed this season is, Carrick and Schneiderlin slows the tempo of the game, and the side seriously needs a player who can drive the entire team from the central midfield. Manchester United can blindly deploy Gomes in the heart of the midfield and that will allow the attacking midfielder who most probably will be Wayne Rooney (or Mata) more room in the attack.
Valencia cannot provide him the stage he surely deserves and hence, Manchester United. United do have a strong and intelligent midfield, but all lacks the pace, and to be perfectly honest, all of them lacked the desire and dynamism this season. A new signing always motivates the side, and a player of Gomes’ stature can surely deliver some perfect outcomes to the team.
