How Mario Gotze Will Fit In At Liverpool?

The World Cup winning goal should have been a career-defining moment for Mario Gotze but things have not gone all that great for the 23-year-old. The German attacker is one of the most coveted players in the Bundesliga but he seems to be surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich, having made just 12 appearances all season for the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Rumours are afoot that Liverpool is leading the chase for the former Borussia Dortmund player, who did spend a few seasons under the current Liverpool manager. Gotze did enjoy his best years at Dortmund and a reunion could well take place next season when Liverpool are set to rebuild once again, this time with a larger transfer kitty.

Gotze is a player that any team in the world would love to have but fitting him into a team is not easy. Liverpool do have a lot of players who could be chucked out of the side next year and Klopp weeds through the side.

The German international can play in a range of positions, striker, winger, attacking midfield, you name it, Gotze can play it. Fitting him into this Liverpool team might not look tricky but dig a little deeper and you do have some quality in the side.

Liverpool play with three attackers that constantly switch positions, the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho, and Roberto Firmino are sure shot starters for the side, especially with Firmino’s form in the second half of the season.

The Brazilian can also play as the solitary striker, something that he has revelled in since the coming of Klopp. Coutinho is a magician and Liverpool cannot even think of playing a game without the mercurial Brazilian providing some attacking impetus to the side. Gotze, however, could replace at least two of the three when it comes on making an impact for the side.

Gotze might only have 12 games under his belt this season but Klopp knows how to use him effectively. The Bayern Munich star, even in his limited playing time, has four goals and three assists to his name this season, not bad for someone who can’t even get into the starting XI.

He could easily play behind the attacking trio as well, providing a lot of options to the side with his movement and passing accuracy. Worth an average of 90% of his passes completed this season, he would fit in perfectly with the pass and play tactic that Klopp does like at Liverpool though his pace in the side would also fit in with the counter-attacking philosophy that has worked often for Liverpool this season.

Adam Lallana is the player who could be on the chopping block as his position is the one that Gotze could easily take over. The Englishman has shown glimpses of his ability but they have been few and far between for a truly inconsistent Liverpool side.

Mario Gotze has just one season left in his contract and he would be one of the most coveted players in the summer transfer window. Even with the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, the German could still be attracted to Merseyside thanks to the presence of Klopp.

Jurgen has shown that he can use his contacts to bring in quality, he did sign Joel Matip from Schalke on a free and will join Liverpool at the start of next season. Gotze though is a tougher ask but Liverpool fans will be hopeful of a reunion between player and manager which could lead them back into the Champions League.
