West Ham need not worry about £45m star if they sign this terrific La Liga ace in the summer as replacement – opinion

West Ham United Opinion: Would Gerard Moreno be Marko Arnautovic’s successor?

While West Ham United and Manuel Pellegrini somehow managed to convince Marko Arnautovic to stay during the winter transfer window, things will get complicated in the summer.

The Austrian striker signed a new deal and rejected a move to China, but with his new deal comes a £45million release clause (Sunday Times).

That will raise issues for the club sooner rather than later. Replacing him is something the Hammers cannot do from within the club as the likes of Javier Hernandez and even Andy Carroll (Sun) could be on their way out.

That’s not something that any club can survive and with West Ham looking to challenge for a top seven spot, they will have to invest heavily. That’s exactly why the Hammers should target a striker but more so, a move for Villarreal star Gerard Moreno would be wonderful.

At the moment, the Yellow Submarines sit 18th in the La Liga and are on the verge of getting relegated once again.

They are two points from safety and given the way their performances have been going, it could get worse. Getting relegated would make it easy for West Ham to sign Moreno.

And given the Spaniard’s ability in front of goal, it’s a move that needs to be made. The 26-year-old has managed to consistently hit double figures over the last few seasons, scoring a career-high 16 goal last season.

However, it’s his work rate and tenacity that West Ham fans will grow to love, with Moreno willing to do his part defensively as well.

While Marko Arnautovic has done relatively well during his spell at West Ham, he’s had his fair share of issues with consistency and injuries.

Moreno, on the other hand, is a model professional and more so, his abilities would help him adjust to the Premier League. Tall, strong and agile, combined with his mentality and willingness to work hard, it will help Gerard Moreno if a move does take place.

This move would be a terrific step by West Ham and every penny would be well-spoken if they sign Moreno in the summer.
