Everton signing this 456-goal veteran for free could turn out to be the steal of the season

Why Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Everton would be a terrific move

According to The Express, Everton are plotting a shock move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic in January as the Toffees chief are in search of a striker.

The report confirms that Everton have contacted the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, over a move in the winter for the free agent who left LA Galaxy in November after a successful 19 months in the USA.

Ibrahimovic, 38, has been a prolific goalscorer wherever he has played. He made a mark during his time at Paris Saint-Germain and has been one of the best players in their history. In 2016, he moved to England with Manchester United.

In March 2018, Ibrahimovic left to play in the MLS and didn’t disappoint there either. In the 2019 season, he scored 30 goals in 29 league games and despite his ripe age, he has been at the top of his game.

Everton have endured a rough season so far and sacked manager Marco Silva. His exit saw them win 3-1 against Chelsea last weekend under Duncan Ferguson. The Toffees have struggled to find a reliable scorer except for Richarlison, who is not a No.9 by nature.

Other options like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse have failed to establish themselves as a proper target man, thus leading to their abysmal performance in front of goal. Youngster Calvert-Lewin just scored his first Premier League brace last weekend but has been inconsistent this season.

The Toffees are currently in 14th position and have only themselves to blame for their poor record in the league this campaign. Their brilliant performance of late seems to have come at the right time but their inability to stay strong has overshadowed their few decent shows.

In this regard, Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be a good choice if they are planning to bring in an experienced campaigner for the rest of the season.

The Swedish striker already has a taste of English top-flight football, which would be enough to convince the Toffees to land him at Goodison Park. He has been lethal in his finishing though he did not play enough games for United due to injuries.

The 38-year-old has scored a staggering 456 goals in 741 top-flight league appearances across Europe in his playing career. His proven record can come in as huge assistance for the English outfit, who have been severely damaged by their rivals.

When Ibrahimovic takes the field it is for sure that there would be entertainment for the spectators. His arrogance and style have made him a better player over the years and it would be the right time for Everton to rope in a person of Ibrahimovic’s calibre.

At Everton, playing alongside the likes of the in-form Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin and Gylfi Sigurdsson would allow him to take chances whenever there is space and he can find the back of the net with ease.

Verdict

In Ibrahimovic, Everton may not have someone who can continue for a long time but it is sure that he can bang in goals with the little amount of game time gets. He can also be a leader on the pitch. Ibrahimovic can spearhead their attack in the right direction, which can save the Toffees from humiliation.

It would pay off well for Everton if they decide to grab him before he moves elsewhere, with Italian giants heavily linked with the talisman.
