Wolves would become a much better PL unit next season if they sign this 24-year-old expert dribbler

Wolves opinion: Should Wolves sign Lucas Ocampos in the summer?

What an incredible season it has been so far for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Since their promotion to the Premier League this season, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side has done wonders, sitting 7th in the league right now. With qualification for Europe at sight, Wolves need to spend big again this summer.

Wolves have been pretty solid all-round with their squad so far and all their players have done incredibly well this season. If there was one position that Santo has to address in the summer, it would be the left-midfield spot.

Diogo Jota was signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer to fulfill that role but the Portuguese has been doing incredibly well up top.

Both Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro are capable of playing on the left flank but their effectiveness there is not as good as it is on the right. Wolves need a player to fill that role and Marseille’s Lucas Ocampos would be brilliant fit at the Molineux.

He made his debut for Argentinian giants River Plate in 2011 and scored his first goal for the club in his very second game. After a string of brilliant performances in his debut season, Ocampos was spotted by Claudio Ranieri, who brought him to Monaco as an 18-year old.

He then moved to current club Marseille in February 2015 due to a lack of playing time. He went out on two different loan spells to Genoa and AC Milan before returning to Marseille.

The very first thing one would notice about Ocampos is his dribbling skills. The 24-year old can run the length of the football pitch under pressure without losing the ball. His quick feet and close control on the ball makes it almost impossible to catch him once he’s free.

Another incredible trait of Ocampos is his ability with both feet. His ambidextrous nature makes it hard to guess his stronger foot for a viewer and it is a nightmare for a defender trying to guess his next move.

Ocampos has played everywhere across the front three in his career so far and his ability to drop into spaces off the ball makes it easier for his teammates to pick him up.

His positional awareness combined with his brute strength makes him a nightmare in the box and he scores a lot of his goals from crosses to the far post.

Ocampos averages 1.8 shots at goal and 1.8 dribbles per game so far this season. His end product has been lacking this season after a productive one last campaign where he scored and assisted 20 goals in all competitions.

Conclusion

Lucas Ocampos will provide Nuno Espirito Santo’s side an option and they shouldn’t ignore him. His pace and dribbling skills will be a massive asset in Nuno’s counter-attacking system and his threat in the box is an added bonus.

With a potential European adventure awaiting them next season, Ocampos is the type of player that Wolves should look at.
