Back in May, the Sun had claimed that Wolves were one among the host of clubs interested in Benfica right-back Andre Almeida. However, a move didn’t materialise and he has since stayed put at Benfica.
Andre Almeida, 28, joined Benfica from Belenenses back in 2012 and has played close to 250 games across all competitions for the current Portuguese champions.
The 28-year-old contributed with two goals and 12 assists in 33 Primeira Liga games last term, a healthy return from a full-back.
As far as Wolves are concerned, they have struggled to match last season’s standards and are without a win in the new Premier League season thus far.
Of course, they had an early start to the season due to the Europa League qualifiers and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side must be appreciated for making it to the group stages of the competition.
However, Nuno knew he’ll need a bigger squad this time around but chose to ignore reinforcing a couple of areas during the summer transfer window.
One of those areas is the right wing-back, with Matt Doherty—one of Wolves’ stars of last season—having struggled with a knee injury since pre-season and has currently undergone a small surgery.
He hasn’t been at his best so far this season and took the decision to operate his knee last week.
Adama Traore has deputised at right wing-back and while he’s surprisingly done well, he isn’t a natural wing-back and cannot be trusted for an entire season if Doherty suffers further injury.
That being said, the January transfer window could be the right time for Wolves to reignite their interest in Andre Almeida and sign him.

Almeida can be described as a typical modern-day full-back, who likes to showcase his skills and qualities in the attacking third.
The Portuguese is extremely versatile as he can play in midfield as well as on the right flank, which will make him an asset to the Wolves squad. His ability in the air, coupled with his tackling prowess, makes him a solid defender, thus allowing him to thrive in any defensive position.
The Benfica man offers excellent chance creation ability as well as defensive solidity – making him just the perfect candidate to compete and cover with Doherty.
Plus, Almeida’s massive European experience and winning mentality would make him a fantastic acquisition for Nuno’s Wolves.
