According to a report from the Birmingham Mail, Inter Milan are interested in signing Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves during the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old joined Wolves from Porto in 2017 and has since made 97 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals and providing six assists. This season, he has featured in 15 matches across all competitions under Nuno Espirito Santo, amassing two goals and an assist.
The Portuguese international’s displays at the heart of Wolves midfield hasn’t gone unnoticed and Inter wants to bolster their squad with his signature as Antonio Conte plans to bring in a big midfield signing to complement Romelu Lukaku.
The report adds Ruben Neves, who has a contract at the Molineux until 2023, would cost around €50m. If Inter are willing to pay that amount, should Wolves sell Neves in January?
Wolves, even if they decide to spend on a central midfielder in January, will need all the help they can get, especially as they are competing in the Europa League this season.
Ruben Neves has looked at home in the English top tier after earning promotion to the Premier League with Wolves last year. He is considered one of the top midfielders in the Premier League and has played 13 times for the Portugal national team so far.
The 22-year-old’s performances have been largely positive, that has helped the Wanderers’ midfield. He has had the type of impact that not many players make after going from one league to another. Neves has shown his tenacity and ability on the ball, time after time, for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The Portuguese is one of the club’s most crucial players, someone who holds the midfield together and works tirelessly to provide the creative players with the license to play freely.
Wolves will be making a massive mistake if they allow Neves to leave in January 2020. The Portuguese has the potential to be an asset to this Wolves side for the next decade. Despite Inter showing interest, the Wanderers should stay stubborn and hold onto their star man.
