Nuno’s biggest regret? – Here’s why Wolves would’ve bagged a massive coup by signing this 36-goal Algerian

Why Wolves should have signed Yacine Brahimi when they had the chance

Wolves haven’t made the best start to the Premier League, despite having qualified for the Europa League after some testing fixtures. They were uncharacteristic in their last game against Everton before the international break.

It looked like they couldn’t wait to get a break after a very tiring schedule and ended up conceding 3 goals at Goodison Park. They should be more than capable of bouncing back once the international break is over but the fixtures don’t get any easier with Chelsea next in line.

One player who would’ve helped in these weeks is former Porto forward  Yacine Brahimi, who was linked with a move in the summer transfer window.

The Algerian joined Qatari club Al-Rayyan eventually and this feels like a real wasted opportunity for Wolves.

Yacine Brahimi

Brahimi is a flexible resource and can play on both flanks or as an attacking midfielder. A technically gifted player, he was one of Porto’s stand out stars over the last few years.

He joined the Portuguese outfit in the 2014/15 season and has been going from strength-to-strength ever since. He is most well-known for his street-like dribbling skills

He is extremely unpredictable and capable of producing moments of pure magic. He was also awarded the African Footballer of the Year in 2014. In his 139 appearances for Porto, he has scored 36 goals, which suggest that he’s not just a show pony and can be effective when required.

The most interesting aspect of this potential deal would’ve been the fact that Brahimi would have cost nothing at all. He was a free agent and had worked with Nuno Espirito Santo in the past and was teammates with the likes of Ruben Neves.

Nuno Espírito Santo

His time in Portugal would’ve helped him settle quite easily to the new surroundings and he would have provided the manager with flexibility in the forward areas by occasionally switching between a two-man frontline or a three-man frontline, depending on the game.

Yacine Brahimi, all things considered, would’ve been a very smart signing for the Molineux side.
