Why Wolves must retain Ruben Neves and sign Besiktas’ £18million Brazilian ace in the summer

Ruben Neves

As per a report from The Sun, Wolverhampton Wanderers are eyeing a summer swoop for Benfica midfielder Anderson Talisca, who is currently serving a loan spell with Besiktas. The report has also claimed that Ruben Neves is being targeted by Liverpool and should the Portuguese star leave, Wolves are lining Talisca up as a replacement.

Both players might be midfielders but the fact is they are quite different in terms of their individual playing styles and attributes.

Neves is a defensive midfielder whereas Talisca is an out-and-out attacking midfielder and straight off the bat, there is no way the 24-year-old could be a like-for-like replacement. However, if one were to take the Neves factor out of the picture, Talisca could prove to be a smart buy for the newly-promoted outfit.

With challenges set to intensify next season, Wolves have a lot of planning to do and according to Birmingham Mail, the Championship leaders have made contact with Talisca regarding a potential move.

Going into the Premier League, Wolves will need firepower up front and considering the form Talisca has been in, he could work wonders for the club. He has notched up 18 goals and 4 assists this season, which is a testament of sorts for his incredible finishing skills.

Known for his energetic displays and effective activity in the final third, Talisca could just be what the Wolves need in order to provide a much-needed boost to their goalscoring exploits.

The Sun claims that Talisca could be available for a fee in the region of £18million, which is a fair price. However, prying him away from Besiktas could prove to be a cumbersome task.

After his sensational loan spell with the club, it is not far-fetched to suggest that perhaps Besiktas could be looking out for a permanent deal. If that is the case, Wolves will have to challenge them by offering a tempting package to the talented attacker.

Regardless, there is no doubt that Talisca could go on to become an important signing for the West Midlands outfit in the days to come. He is talented, experienced and skilled enough to make a difference and having him in the squad could provide greater scope for Nuno Espirito Santo to experiment with tactics.

However, signing him as a replacement for Neves is unlikely to yield positive results for the club. Their natural playing styles are as different as chalk and cheese and so Wolves must focus on ensuring they retain the Portuguese star.
