Why Willian Jose to Everton would be a brilliant move

Back in May 2018, the Liverpool Echo had claimed that Everton were interested in signing Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose, but a move failed to materialise then.

The Brazilian front-man, 27, has won plenty admirers from within La Liga and across Europe following his move to the Anoeta from Real Zaragoza back in 2016. He helped Real Sociedad finish ninth in the La Liga table last season with 11 goals and five assists in 31 games.

With Willian Jose establishing himself one of the top strikers in the La Liga, the time is ripe for Everton to reignite their interest in him during the January transfer window.

Everton ended their four-game losing streak with a 2-0 success over West Ham at Goodison Park on Saturday. Toffees’ tactician Marco Silva has come under scrutiny this season for his tactics and inability to churn out results. However, he would have been a relieved man after his team’s victory at the weekend.

The Merseysiders need to build on their recent result if they are to bring their season back on track. It has been so surprising to see them struggle in front of goal, regardless of signing forwards like Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi.

Cenk Tosun has struggled to adapt to the Premier League following his move from Besiktas last year and while Dominic Calvert-Levin has done well in patches, signing another striker would do no harm to Everton. And Willian Jose would be a good fit at Goodison Park.

Willian is a fantastic finisher who comes alive in the box and finishes his chances with aplomb.

A natural goalscorer, he terrorises opposition defenders with his clever movement in and around the box. The Brazilian is technically brilliant, with the ability to receive the ball in tight spaces and keep hold of it in crowded areas.

Everton play quick, free-flowing football under Silva and Willian would thrive with Iwobi, Bernard and Richarlison providing the width and creativity. He can also play with the talented Kean as a two up front if Silva wants to take the game to the opposition from the onset.

Verdict

Marco Silva has a lot of work to do on this side but fixing the attack has to be the top priority.

Willian, who has the quality and experience, has entered the peak years of his career and his aerial ability and poaching instincts could be the spark that Everton need to get going.
