West Ham rejoining the race for this 27-year-old Serie A ace would be a shrewd step by Pellegrini

West Ham opinion: Should Pellegrini re-enter the race for Roberto Inglese?

Just before the start of the season, West Ham were very interested in signing Napoli star Roberto Inglese, as they looked for new strikers (Sky Sports).

However, the move failed to materialise and instead, the club opted to move the 27-year-old out on loan. He joined Parma for the remainder of the 2018//19 season.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form on loan, scoring more goals than most of West Ham’s squad members barring Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic. However, he’s done that with a struggling Parma who sit 11th in the Serie A and have only just managed to get a decent winning run.

That’s exactly why West Ham need to re-enter the race for Inglese, given the state of their team. At the moment, there are a lot of futures in flux.

Both Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll don’t have a future at the club (Football.London). Also, Marko Arnautovic was heavily linked with a move to China in the winter window (BBC).

While Manuel Pellegrini got him to stay and sign an extension, it included a £45million release clause (Times). This puts the club in jeopardy and though they did spend smartly in the summer, it seems that their inability to add another attacking option will hurt them.

However, the coming summer transfer window gives the club a chance to change that. While they were interested in Maxi Gomez in the winter (Standard), the La Liga striker also has Barcelona after him (Express) and that will complicate things.

Instead, a move for Roberto Inglese looks a better one and the Italian suits the Hammers perfectly. Not only is the 27-year-old a target man but more so, his strength and surprising reflexes make him a great signing.

Conclusion

While he won’t have Arnautovic’s pace, the Italian is an out-an-out target man who tends to hold up the ball brilliantly.

Not only does Inglese use his strength to bring others into play but his creativity also helps create chances. That combined with his physical presence and power, makes him an ideal man for West Ham.

It’s a move they need to make, and one that will help them maybe get a chance at a top six place.
