West Ham allowed Javier Hernandez to leave for Sevilla during the European transfer window. Prior to that, they had already allowed Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez, Marko Arnautovic and Jordan Hugill to leave the club, only bringing in Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti.
With Michail Antonio out injured for the next four months, West Ham are light in the striking department. Manager Manuel Pellegrini must definitely look to add to his attacking ranks in January in order to boost his depth for the busy second-half of the campaign.
Thus, going back to target CD Leganes star Youssef En-Nesyri could be a smart move.
The Daily Mail reported over the summer that the Hammers wanted to sign Youssef En-Nesyri, and were willing to beat Brighton to his signature. However, a deal didn’t go through then.
En-Nesyri, 22, enjoyed a promising season in Spain’s top flight last year, scoring nine goals in 31 appearances. It was, by far, his best campaign to date that caught the attention of some clubs during the summer transfer window.
The Moroccan international might be far from the finished product but the 22-year-old certainly isn’t short of potential.
The 22-year-old with his goalscoring, aerial presence, as well as his good link-up play, could be a very good signing for the Hammers. The forward can play as a No. 9, up top or in a two-pronged attack.
Despite possessing a towering frame, En-Nesyri has a good turn of pace on the ground and can certainly keep hold of the ball in tightest of situations. But he has never really relied on pace to be effective.
The former Malaga man is also a very hardworking player who also helps his team defensively when required. He could be a shrewd signing by Pellegrini at West Ham as the Moroccan has done well in the La Liga and will bring a lot of quality to the table.
He can help boost the Hammers’ top-seven chances, while also being a good influence on the team.
West Ham have just two strikers in their ranks presently, summer signings Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti. Ajeti is yet to make his debut for the Hammers, while Haller has got off to a good start.
Signing En-Nesyri would add more depth and freshness to the squad in the second half of the season.
