West Ham opinion: Should the Hammers extend Samir Nasri’s contract?

West Ham United signed Samir Nasri on New Year’s Eve on a contract until the end of the season following an 18-month ban due to doping. The Frenchman was given a chance to prove himself by former boss Manuel Pellegrini under whom he won the Premier League with Manchester City.

Nasri has been nothing but a positive influence to the Hammers side since being available and even picked up an assist against former side Arsenal on his debut.

The 31-year-old picked up an injury on his third start for the club, which raised serious concerns about his fitness, but the Frenchman has picked himself up and changed the game for the Hammers after coming on against Huddersfield last weekend.

Pellegrini’s side were 3-1 down against the bottom-placed side but Nasri’s immaculate impact from the bench brought them back into the game that finished 4-3.

The Frenchman in his 5 appearances in the league has shown glimpses of his form at Arsenal and deserves an extended stay at the Olympic Stadium beyond the summer.

Nasri’s creative influence is a massive asset to any team and West Ham’s forwards will thrive playing in front him. The Frenchman’s quality on the ball is unquestionable and his experience will be a gift to the Hammers and the players around him.

The 31-year-old’s calmness in the midfield was evident in the game against Huddersfield over the weekend and will be of massive use to the Hammers in the future when they will have to control the game.

The former Arsenal man’s range of passing is spectacular and is a constant threat to the opposition irrespective of his position on the pitch. Nasri completed 100% of his passes in the game at the weekend, having played over 30 minutes since coming on.

His dribbling is a joy to the eyes and he has the ability to take on a number of defenders without losing the ball. His finishing, as he as proven over the years in the Premier League, is clinical and the combination of his skills and his composure in front of goal will be a massive threat in Pellegrini’s armoury.

Conclusion

A motivated Samir Nasri with the trust of his manager is a massive asset to every team and the Frenchman’s ability allows him to dictate the game at his own pace.

His experience at the top level will help the youngsters at the club and West Ham should not think twice about renewing his contract at the end of the season.
