Watford opinion: Hornets should make a move for Robin Olsen

Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb has reported that Watford are interested in making a move for AS Roma star Robin Olsen.

A Monchi signing, the 29-year-old has struggled to make an impact, with him walking in to replace the outgoing Alisson Becker. Since then, the Swedish international has played 93% of AS Roma’s Serie A games this season.

However, he’s failed to make an impression with just four clean sheets to his name, which is a far total off what Alisson (17) had last season. He’s among many of Monchi’s failures at AS Roma, but despite his struggles, Olsen would be perfect for Watford.

The Hornets have been doing really well under manager Javi Gracia this season and are in contention for a 7th-place finish but despite all that, their team is far from perfect and they need a few reinforcements in the near future.

Their defence has just one player below the age of thirty, their midfield is certainly in some trouble and their front-line needs some new blood. Yet that is not the Hornets’ biggest issue this season, as they need a new goalkeeper.

They do have three goalkeepers at their disposal, but Heurelho Gomes is 38 years old, Ben Foster is 35 years old and Pontus Dahlberg has struggled to make any impact. The Swedish international is only 20 years old but has barely made an impact.

That has affected Watford on a few occasions this season, but nothing too bad. Ben Foster, for someone who is 35 years old, has been pretty perfect for the Hornets, but the former Manchester United star won’t be able to keep it up for too long.

Watford need someone who can move them into the future, and that man is Robin Olsen. The 29-year-old has struggled to replace Alisson, but replacing the Brazilian was always an incredible feat.

However, with Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb reporting that Roma are looking to offload the Swedish international, this is a move that Watford should consider making.

The 29-year-old is still a very talented goalkeeper even on his worst days and is any day better than either Heurelho Gomes or Pontus Dahlberg.

Conclusion

Watford need a new goalkeeper and someone like Robin Olsen would be a good addition given his age and ability.
