Man United signing this world-class 31-year-old would make them absolutely lethal

Why Man United should pay heed to Blackmore and land Lewandowski

Former Welsh international Clayton Blackmore while talking on behalf of Gentingbet (h/t Daily Star), urged his former club Manchester United to sign Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski.

Blackmore, who played 186 matches for the Red Devils, was of the opinion that they were in dire need of an experienced striker who could help the younger lots in the side perform better.

United, who are currently sixth in the league table have not had the best of starts this season, winning just 6 from a total of 16 games. The Red Devils, playing under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have mostly relied on their younger lot this season rather than the old guards.

And their inexperience has often been at the forefront, with the club managing just 25 goals in the league so far. Most of their goals, meanwhile, have come from the boots of in-form man Marcus Rashford, who has 10 to his name.

Since the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer, United have failed to find a suitable replacement for the Belgian striker. Rather than investing in someone new, manager Solskjaer chose to stick with the options he had under his disposal.

Left with not many choices up front, the Norwegian opted to go with Rashford and Anthony Martial for the centre-forward’s role. However, both Rashford and Martial are not traditional centre-forwards.

This has been reflective in both their performances this season, with Martial managing just 4 goals in the league.

Rashford, on the other hand, after failing to impress as a finisher, has settled for his favoured left-winger role. The Englishman has since been flourishing and is United’s leading goalscorer this season.

With Martial getting injured midway through the season, Solskjaer had to field academy graduate Mason Greenwood, who is still only 18.

The teenager has scored just one goal and lacks enough senior team experience. Moreover, rushing him too soon into top-flight action could, in turn, affect the youngster in the long run, with injuries always a concern.

It would be too demanding and a task uphill for the teenager to suddenly cope with the physical demands of the Premier League. Taking all this into consideration, United are clearly in need of an established striker, who could up pull the strings and win them matches.

Hence, it is not surprising that Blackmore has suggested that star striker Lewandowski should be United’s target for the upcoming January window transfer.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 16 goals from 14 league games. He is currently the leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga.

The 31-year-old is proving that age is just a number by leading the Champions League top-scorers chart too, with 10 to his name already.

The Polish striker has time and again proved his credentials as a prolific strike force by continuously dominating the German league and the European competition over the past few years.

Verdict

With Lewandowski still on top of his game at this age and scoring goals for fun, Manchester United should indeed pay heed to Blackmore’s words.

The youngsters have been improving with time, however, they need someone to lead them from the front. Hence, United should land the prolific goal-machine sooner than later.
