Why Tottenham should sign Norwich City’s Max Aarons in January

According to Metro, Tottenham Hotspur are planning to sign Norwich City right-back Max Aarons in the January window. Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino has failed to replace Kieran Trippier, who was sold to Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Pochettino has tried three players at the right-back position in the nine Premier League games they have played so far. He backed Kyle Walker-Peters at the beginning of the season but lost him after three matches due to a hamstring injury. He had also tried Serge Aurier and Moussa Sissoko but both have failed to impress.

Serge Aurier

Aurier made an impressive start to his season and provided two assists in his first league appearance, helping the Lilywhites claim their bragging rights with a 4-0 win over the London rivals Crystal Palace.

Also, it was Spurs’ first win of the season. However, the Ivorian international failed to stay disciplined and received a red card against Southampton – his third appearance of the season.

Norwich right-back Aarons came off a brilliant season in the Championship last year and caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs over the summer before he signed a new five-year contract with the Canaries.

The England Under-21 international has made seven Premier League appearances this summer and the Lilywhites see him as one of their preferred options to fill the right-back gap left by Trippier.

Max Aarons

Aarons, who is just 19 years old, made 41 Championship appearances last season, in which he scored two goals and provided six assists. He also kept his discipline in regular check and went into the referee’s book just six times.

Even though Aurier has started to manage himself better and is on the verge of establishing himself as the Lilywhites’ first-choice right-back, his position remains unchallenged.

Bringing in Aarons will keep pushing Tottenham to greater heights. Pochettino can also give Aurier some rest during the busy Christmas schedule. The Argentine gaffer can also give Aarons opportunities in other competitions and slowly introduce him to the Premier League.

Aarons is an English player which is again a huge advantage in the Premier League. He will also have a better understanding as there are always four to five England internationals in the Spurs team including captain Harry Kane.
