11 goals, 8 assists – Tottenham’s attack would become top class if they add this outstanding Italian prospect in the summer

Tottenham opinion: Should Pochettino go for Federico Chiesa?

The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham have joined the race for Fiorentina star Federico Chiesa, as the North London side look to reinforce their team.

The 21-year-old has been linked with moves to Juventus (Calciomercato) and even AC Milan (Gazzetta dello Sport), but the Daily Mail reveals that Mauricio Pochettino has become very interested in a move.

A Fiorentina youth product, Chiesa fought his way up the ranks, with his precocious talent showing at a very young age. This combined with a few other factors saw him make his debut in the 2016/17 season, producing seven goals in all competitions.

However, it wasn’t until his second full season that the young winger really showed just how good he was, as he produced 15 goals. This season has once again seen him take things to another level with 11 goals and 8 assists in 30 games.

Chiesa’s maturity and growth was rewarded with the captain’s armband, with him leading the team in four games this season. For Tottenham, what makes the move a brilliant one is because the club needs a consistently world-class player they can hang their laurels on.

While the North London side does have Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, Chiesa has the potential to match all three stars. In barely three full seasons of football, the young Italian has produced 40 goals, and is on his way to breaking his career best.

Moreover, the 21-year-old has consistently found the net since his debut, something that neither Christian Eriksen nor Dele Ali has failed to do. However, given that Chiesa is a winger, that may cause a few problems for the club.

Tottenham already have Lucas Moura, Eric Lamela and Heung-Min Son, but only Son has managed to flourish. Hence, it shows that there is space for someone with Chiesa’s ability to come into the club and his mentality makes him perfect for the Premier League.

His ability on the ball also makes him perfect, as Chiesa is an unpredictable winger that combines speed and creativity to lethal effect. He is versatile enough to play anywhere across the front-line and that makes any prospect of a move that much more exciting.

Yet, for someone that good, Chiesa has his fair share of weakness but under the right manager, the 21-year-old will become a world-class manager and if nothing else, Mauricio Pochettino is exactly that.

Conclusion

The former Southampton manager has an exquisite record when it comes to young talents, with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Davinson Sanchez and Harry Winks among others being nurtured by Pochettino.

The youngster is at the stage of his career where a move to a tougher league will prove to be very beneficial and under a manager like Pochettino, he will improve.

This is a move that Tottenham have to make and it’s one that Mauricio Pochettino will regret if it doesn’t happen.
