Why Tottenham should revive interest in Nicolas Tagliafico

It goes without the saying that Tottenham are one of the sides to watch out for in the upcoming season, following their historic run in the Champions League the last term. Also, one cannot forget their impressive transfer spree.

Having acquired exciting talents like Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke, Spurs have certainly completed some solid deals so far. Amidst these positive happenings, Mauricio Pochettino should look to bolster the left-back void to have a complete squad at his disposal.

Danny Rose, Spurs’ current left-back, has been linked with a summer exit and at the same time, the 28-year-old can’t be viable addition for the long-term future.

Pochettino’s system always lionizes the full-backs more than anyone else on the pitch and a flexible player like Nicolas Tagliafico would be a perfect fit. The Ajax full-back was chased by both the North London clubs for a while, only to go under the radar in the end.

Tagliafico – the apt man for Tottenham

The Argentine defender was an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s revolutionary squad the last term, which ran riot in the Champions League.

He racked up a total of 6 goals and 6 assist in all competitions and helped the Amsterdam outfit achieve the domestic treble. In the end, it turned out to be a dream debut for him in the Eredivisie.

The former Independiente man also had a decent run in the Copa America, where the Argentines won third place. Tagliafico works around the clock and also doesn’t shy away from straying off his usual position.

To be clear, the 26-year-old is more of an offensive-minded full-back and yet, his defensive capabilities are unhinged, thanks to his physicality. Not to mention, he can also play as a centre-back at times.

Meanwhile, at Spurs, Pochettino managed to work wonders even with a lop-sided squad last season. But he can’t move forward with the same ideology and hence, reinforcements are needed in all aspects.

Tagliafico had it easy in his first-ever season in the Netherlands and would do the same under his compatriot in the Premier League.

Final Verdict

Spurs need to find a left-back soon while the new season is on the horizon. Tagliafico is a safe bet, considering his immense potential to breathe a new life to Pochettino’s squad.
