Tottenham must make a renewed attempt to sign this £10m-rated Peterborough United gem

Why Tottenham should make a renewed attempt to sign Ricky Jade-Jones

According to The Sun, Tottenham have been rebuffed in their pursuit of teenage prodigy Ricky Jade-Jones, who has burst on to the scene at Peterborough United this season.

The Lilywhites have seen a £1.75 million bid for the 17-year-old turned down by Peterborough, who want a fee around £10million to part ways with their prized asset (h/t Sun).

Spurs are among a host of Premier League clubs keeping close tabs on Jade-Jones, following his successful transition to the senior ranks at London Road this term.

Ricky Jade-Jones only made his senior professional debut for Peterborough United as a 16-year-old in a 1-0 victory over Arsenal U21s in the EFL Trophy last month but his stocks are already beginning to soar sky-high in what has been an impressive breakthrough season.

Having turned 17 and put pen to paper on professional terms earlier this month, the Posh starlet has gone from strength to strength, scoring in the 2-1 EFL Trophy victory over Cambridge United. He followed it up with another goal in the 2-0 victory over Stevenage in the FA Cup first round replay.

The 17-year-old is yet to make his league debut for Peterborough United but with Premier League interest in the teenager, he would be wise to aim for the next big move in his career.

Peterborough have proven to be tough negotiators in the market over the years, with the recent transfer saga revolving around star striker Ivan Toney yet another instance of the fact that they are not willing to part ways with their prized assets on the cheap (h/t Sun).

Chairman Darragh MacAntony has slapped a £13million price tag on Toney to ward off interest from Premier League duo Bournemouth and Burnley, which is definitely an audacious asking price for a player in the third-tier (h/t Sun).

Verdict

To that end, Peterborough turning down Tottenham’s proposed £1.75 million offer for Ricky Jade-Jones isn’t all that surprising.

Notwithstanding the fact that the aforementioned fee looks like a hefty sum for a 17-year-old who is yet to make a single league appearance for his club, the Lilywhites would be wise to take a gamble and sign Jade-Jones as a long-term prospect.

Doing so would be a shrewd investment, considering the fact that Tottenham have some fine up and coming players like Troy Parrott, Juan Foyth, Oliver Skipp and Kyle Walker-Peters in their ranks.
