Tottenham should simply make it their priority to sign this 22-year-old German sensation to replace Dembele – opinion

Tottenham opinion: Should Pochettino make a move for Florian Neuhaus?

Losing Mousa Dembele in the January window hurt Tottenham a lot. Not only did the club fail to sign a replacement, but injuries just weeks after he left hurt their title challenge. Losing Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and even Heung-Min Son (national duty), saw the North London side tumble out of the race.

Since then, while both Kane and Alli have returned, their absence cost the club more than they ever thought it would. More so, it affected their central midfield. The lack of a maestro to conduct their attacking moves had been evident since Dembele’s departure.

While manager Mauricio Pochettino has done a stunning job in converting Moussa Sissoko into a central midfielder, it is not enough. There is only so much that Harry Winks can do alone and that’s exactly why the North London side have to add Florian Neuhaus.

The 22-year-old has been among Borussia Monchengladbach’s best players this season, doing some of his best work from the midfield. A central midfielder by trade, the German can play further up the field if required.

But it’s in the middle of the park that Neuhaus really does excel, flourishing as a free-roaming midfielder.

A lot like Dembele in many ways, while the German is an enthusiastic defender at best, it’s his offensive skills that really replicate the Belgian. The combination of strength, exceptional close control and stunning vision make up the young midfielder.

Furthermore, it’s his ability to find space in crowded areas that really make him useful for Tottenham. Blessed with great spatial intelligence, the 22-year-old can find space nearly anywhere in and around the final third. It’s that ability that has seen Florian Neuhaus produce 12 goals this season.

This includes 9 assists in all competitions and it showcases the range of abilities the German has at his disposal. Not only will Neuhaus’ presence help take the burden off Eriksen and Alli, his work ethic will suit Pochettino’s tactics.

The former Southampton boss likes his midfielders to be of the box-to-box kind, with great stamina and work rate, which emphasises Florian Neuhaus. It shows exactly why the North London side have to make a move and it’s a move that will shore up their midfield.

Conclusion

While Tottenham could lose Christian Eriksen next season (Daily Mail), their first job is to replace Mousa Dembele. Adding a player as good as Florian Neuhaus will help them make that transition and given how good Neuhaus is, he could even help ease the fact that Eriksen could leave.

Yet, his addition alone won’t help Tottenham get their hands on a Premier League title, but it is one that will move them one step closer.
