Tottenham signing this prodigious 17-year-old starlet would get them a gem for the future

Why Tottenham should go all out to sign Marseille’s Isaac Lihadji

According to Foot Mercato (h/t Football.London), North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal have made contact with Marseille starlet Isaac Lihadji’s representatives.

Isaac Lihadji, 17, has rejected a contract offer from Marseille, meaning he’ll be available for nothing at the end of the season. Although the Frenchman made his Ligue 1 debut as a substitute in September, he has yet to win a regular place.

Having made his first-team debut in September, the young wide man has gone onto play just once more for Marseille this season, coming on as a substitute in the final 11 minutes of the 3-1 loss against Amiens at the start of October.

He has been an unused substitute four times but has not made the squad since the end of November.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Juventus, Valencia and Lille are also among the clubs interested in Lihadji, the report adds. (h/t Football London)

Meanwhile, Tottenham are currently without a lengthy list of first-team players, with Moussa Sissoko and Harry Kane the latest pair sidelined. Jose Mourinho has managed to steady the ship to some extent but there is a lot of work that needs to be done if Spurs are to achieve a top-four finish this term.

Signing a couple of players would make sense, particularly with injuries mounting at the club. Spurs have some really exciting young players and while Mourinho isn’t exactly known for grooming prodigious talents, the Portuguese tactician should enhance his squad depth by signing Isaac Lihadji this month.

Lihadji came through the ranks of Marseille’s youth system and though he is still registered as a U19 player for the club, he has already made huge strides to earn himself a place in Andre Villas-Boas’ squad this season.

The young winger is lively, can score goals and isn’t afraid to take players on. He is very young and has all the tools on paper to thrive in the fast-paced nature of Premier League.

However, Lihadji is likely to take some time to adapt to a completely different style of football. Mourinho can ease the France Under-19 international into the Spurs senior team and help the youngster get accustomed to English football.

That being said, Tottenham should definitely look to raid Marseille for Lihadji, who has a very high potential and can develop into a world-beater in a few years’ time.
