Tottenham signing this 22-year-old Bundesliga ace would be an effective solution to Poch’s midfield crisis

Why Tottenham should go all out to sign Denis Zakaria in January

According to a report from The Sun, Tottenham are planning to offload give players during the January transfer window.

Tottenham are enduring a torrid start to the season after losing three games already which included their embarrassing 3-0 loss at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion. The loss was preceded by a 7-2 mauling by Bayern Munich in the Champions League where they have picked up only a single point.

Victor Wanyama will be among the casualties placed on the transfer list, along with wantaway stars Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Serge Aurier.

With Harry Winks in good form and the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele, Wanyama has been pushed down the pecking order. Dier, meanwhile, has made three appearances this season, with only one start in the league, against Brighton last weekend.

Pochettino is looking to sell the aforementioned players in a bid to freshen up his misfiring squad and should the likes of Dier and Wanyama depart, Spurs would need at least a midfielder in January. That being said, Tottenham must make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria.

Denis Zakaria, 22, who was linked to Spurs in January, joined Borussia Monchengladbach from Young Boys in the summer of 2017. He made 31 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, impressing from the middle of the park and bagging four goals as well as an assist.

The defensive midfielder is regarded as one of Switzerland’s hottest prospects that looks cut out for English football and is only going to get better.

Zakaria ticks a lot of boxes for Pochettino’s Tottenham; tall, powerful and athletic, the 22-year-old is versatile, capable of using his tackling and interception skills to break up play before using his natural composure to pick out a killer pass that can immediately put his side on the front foot.

A powerhouse with passing ability far beyond his years, the Switzerland international combines power with precision and is adept at both winning and using the ball smartly.

Zakaria likes to carry the ball, take on opposition players and supply his team’s flair players with effective passes in the final third. All in all, he could be an upgrade over the injury-prone Wanyama at Spurs.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is the perfect mentor to bring through talents. And he just could be the right manager to help Zakaria take his game to the next level and eventually realise his true potential. Hence, a move to Tottenham could work wonders for both parties involved.
