Why Tottenham Should Do All It Takes To Land Davinson Sanchez

Tottenham Hotspur made a sizzling start to their Premier League campaign with a victory over newly promoted side Newcastle United as they put two unanswered goals in the first game of the league campaign, away from home. But Mauricio Pochettino will know that his squad still needs a few additions to help them compete for the title yet again.

This has seen him linked with some of the most exciting stars in Europe and the latest name extensively linked with a move to the club is Davinson Sanchez.

A versatile defender fast growing into one of the most consistent in Europe, Sanchez is being scouted by some of the best clubs in Europe but reports from the Independent claim that the the player has told his current club Ajax that he wants to join Tottenham Hotspur before the deadline day.

The Guardian has backed up this claim and has reported that Spurs have opened talks with Ajax and the player’s agent, and are ready to make a £25m bid for him in the upcoming days. So, is Sanchez a player Spurs need?

A product of the Atletico Nacional Academy in Colombia, Sanchez moved to Ajax’s youth setup just last summer and took no time to establish himself in the first team. He made 32 league appearances last season and showed that he is ready for the challenges at the highest level.

A centre-back by trait, the 21-year old is unusually comfortable with the ball at his feet for a defender, while his ability to stay ahead of the game allows him to be an impact player in the box. He loves to play short passes and is a huge asset when his side tries to push for a victory. His strength and ability to win crosses in the air only make him that much more dangerous.

He is also a threat from set-pieces. Though he has to work on his ability to throw himself around, he is a player Spurs will love to have in their squad.

Pochettino loves to use a 3-man defensive system with Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as the first choice CBs. Kevin Wimmer is currently the only other player in the squad who can play in this position and Sanchez would be an upgrade on him.

At just 21, he already has two national team appearances and is an established star and could replace one of the Belgian duo at the back for the North London outfit in the years to come.
