Why Tottenham Hotspur Can Win The League Beating Arsenal To It

Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur are currently flying in the Premier League. They’re up to second and look to have secured a place in next season’s Champions League. Since Mauricio Pochettino joined Spurs from Southampton, he has developed a youthful, energetic side, bringing through youth players and making some fantastic signings.

Spurs have had some fantastic players over the past few years; Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Rafael Van Der Vaart in-particular lit up White Hart Lane during their time in North London. However since those players left, Spurs fans have been wondering how long it would be until they were in a position to win a trophy – let alone the Premier League.

This Spurs team is no longer built around individuals. As a team they have one of the best balanced squads in the league; they have one of the Premier League’s best keepers in Hugo Lloris, an efficient centre back pairing of Alderweireld and Vertonghen, a promising midfield pairing in Alli and Eric Dier and a regular goalscorer in Harry Kane.

That is one of the main reasons Spurs are so far up the league – they finally have a regular goalscorer they can rely on to win them games; Harry Kane. The Englishman has developed into one of the best strikers in the world; breaking Gary Lineker’s record for the number of goals scored in a calendar year and he is continuously linked with big-money transfers to Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Eric Dier is a stalwart in this Spurs team. A £4 million signing from Sporting Lisbon looks to be an outstanding piece of business from Pochettino. The England international is a versatile player capable of operating at centre-back, right-back and as a defensive midfielder.

Spurs have been a much more creative this season, new signing Dele Alli has been one of the main reasons behind that. The young midfielder has been playing in the number 10 position behind Kane and those two have formed a well-worked partnership. The 19-year-old was signed for an initial £5 million from MK Dons and he has shown maturity and talent to make the leap from League One to the Premier League. Hugo Lloris is one of the best keepers in the Premier League, he has shown his talent for club and country and this season his impressive form has helped Spurs climb up the table.

The formation Spurs play enables the creative players to have freedom on the field because they know they have a stable defence. The way this team is playing, no-one can deny they are title contenders.
