Arsenal’s second place finish last season, wouldn’t have satisfied the fans who are eagerly waiting for the Premier League title, which they last won in 2004 with the famous invincible. Wenger knows that he must add more quality and depth to his squad, if he wants to challenge for the title and cross the round of 16 knockout stage in the Champions League next year. The Frenchman has started early this year and has already signed the Swiss international Granit Xhaka, who has been one of the players of the tournament so far at the Euro 2016.

However the shopping isn’t done yet and there is still a need to a sign a few more players before the squad is completely ready. Wenger will want to buy players who can contribute to this Arsenal team for many years to come, as he has always been someone who prioritizes long term success over short term. He will need to make sure that whoever he brings in this summer, can gel with his teammate and start contributing to the team’s success as soon as possible. One player who seems to have be heading across the English Channel is the France international Lucas Digne.

The 22-year-old player is at present on loan with Serie A giants AS Roma from his parent club Paris Saint-Germain and has looked in good form throughout last season. Although Arsenal have two established left-backs right now, however with reports emerging of Kieran Gibbs moving on from the club, Wenger will do well to get the French to London as a long term cover for Nacho Monreal. With Monreal now on the wrong side of 30, the manager knows that he must get a back full-back in case his first choice player starts showing signs of fatigue, given the amount of football the Spanish full back played last season.

Lucas Digne has excellent positional sense, with good anticipation on the field. Blessed with a low centre of gravity and a good burst of pace, Digne uses his pace to get up and down the line well, offering his team an outlet on the left flank while still proving to be a solid defender when called upon. The player made 42 appearances for Roma last term in all competition, along with three appearances for his national side as well. He scored thrice during the season and even managed to earn 6 assists in total. Currently he is with his national team at the EUROS, however he is yet to be used by Didier Deschamp.

Digne is good in the air and can also pass the ball the well, something which is always appreciated at the Emirates. There is no doubt that if he is signed and given the proper training and advice than this youngster could have a great future at Arsenal.
