Why This German could Be The Perfect Replacement For Arsene Wenger At Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is under a lot of pressure this summer, after his team finished runner-ups to eventual winners Leicester City. The final phase of the campaign saw a group of supporters calling for Wenger’s resignation. However the Frenchman still has the backing of the board and majority of the fans. With just one-year left on his deal ahead of the 2016/17 season. The North London club are desperately seeking his natural successor to ensure Arsenal can go further in the Champions League while remaining competitive on all fronts.

Many football experts around the world believed that Jurgen Klopp would be a perfect replacement for Arsene Wenger but Liverpool managed to lure him to Anfield mid-way last season and there is very little hope of him leaving the Reds. At a time, when most of the other big clubs have just got new managers in, it’s difficult to find a suitable candidate who can continue Wenger’s legacy after he departs. One man whose name has been doing the rounds as an option is German national team coach Joachim Low.

Germany’s loss in the semi-final of recently concluded Euro 2016 might have been Low’s final match as the head coach of die Mannschaft. After winning the World Cup in 2014, Low might see this as the perfect time to step down, even though his team couldn’t complete the highly coveted double. Both Low and Wenger share many similarities as coaches, they both took over sides which were pacey counter-attacking teams and turned them into mature teams who like retaining high level of possession.

The one factor which might go against Low is that he has very little experience at a club level, in comparison to the likes of Simeone and Klopp but someone like Löw could offer something fresh and different, allowing Arsenal to become a fierce force, like the Germans are under him.

While Wenger is stubborn with his tactics, Low is someone who studies the strengths and weaknesses of his oppositions very minutely. The German manager has guided his team to five consecutive semi-finals in major tournaments. Although it has been 14 years since he has managed at the club level, there is no doubt that with the backing of the board and the support of the fans, he could flourish.

If Low does move to London, Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Özil would find continuity, something which will only help his game, given his excellent performances for his country. Other players such as Alexis Sánchez, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey would find themselves working under a manager who knows how to get the most out of players of their type.

If Low did leave the German national team this summer, it is unlikely that he will jump straight into a top club job. He is likely to take a break for one year, giving Arsenal a chance to discuss their plans with him and allowing Wenger one more year at the helm before moving him into the boardroom.
