Why This French-German Dual Signing Could Work Wonders Playing In Central Midfield For Arsenal

Steven Nzonzi And Leon Goretzka’s Midfield Partnership At Arsenal Can Work Wonders For Arsene Wenger

Arsenal seem like they could splash some money in the upcoming January transfer window and two names continue to make their way into the list of targets. One is Sevilla’s Steven Nzonzi and the other is Schalke’s Leon Goretzka. The Gunners’ midfield could use some fresh dynamism since their weaknesses were ruthlessly exploited by Manchester United in their recent encounter.

Arsene Wenger’s future continues to be scrutinised. Ever since his contract got renewed in the summer, fans have not been happy. So far this season, Arsenal have been quite inconsistent and the French manager needs to come up with a solution for their troubles soon. Chants of ‘Wenger Out’ only intensified last season after they failed to secure a qualification spot to the Champions League and if that happens once more, Wenger may as well kiss his job goodbye.

To avoid that unpleasant situation, it is understood that he is keen on bringing Goretzka and Nzonzi to the club. If at all Wenger manages to sign both players, it could improve Arsenal’s chances remarkably. Not only will it be a massive statement of their intent but it could also provide some much-needed support for their attack and defence. In fact, considering their capabilities, Nzonzi and Goretzka seem like the perfect midfield partnership for the Gunners.

Goretzka has been in spectacular form this season and has already scored 6 goals for Schalke. He has attracted quite a lot of attention for his displays and Wenger could truly benefit by having the youngster in his ranks. Nzonzi, on the other hand, is understood to have fallen out of favour with Sevilla. He was taken off in their game against Liverpool in the Champions League earlier and since then, there have been rumours suggesting a tiff between him and Eduardo Berizzo. That said, there is no denying his capabilities.

Wenger could deploy Gortezka alongside Aaron Ramsey while Nzonzi could make space for himself with Granit Xhaka to provide further support. Goretzka is equally adept at defending and also attacking, and boasts of some stellar pace. He can score goals, create them and his work-rate does seem enticing enough for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Nzonzi can partner Xhaka for now and act as his replacement in the future. The Sevilla midfielder can bring everything that Xhaka lacks and the fact that he could play alongside the Arsenal man will mean that he can prove to an ideal deputy when the time comes. Hence, these are two players Wenger must make a move for since they can truly work wonders for the Gunners in the middle of the park.
