Arsenal always get linked with players and more often than not it is players who are either French or can speak the language, however this time around they keep getting linked with the best midfielders to deal with their lack of good options in the heart of midfield. This time they are being linked with Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko, the French international footballer has been one of Newcastle’s few bright sparks in a stop start season for the Magpies.
Moussa has spoken about his desire to join a team which plays in the UEFA Champions league and Arsenal always end up playing in the Champions League, no matter what, however, this marriage may not happen as Arsenal need a midfielder, yes but Moussa is not the answer to Arsenal’s problems and here are 3 reasons why.
They already have good attackers
Moussa Sissoko does as much attacking as defensive work and he has had his best games for Newcastle playing as an attacking midfielder. He doesn’t score as many goals as an attacking midfielder should but more importantly Arsenal has an abundance of attackers and Sissoko would just not fit in or be on the bench.
The likes of Cazorla, Oxlade Chamberlain, Walcott, Ozil and Sanchez to play in an advanced role, Sissoko might be good but he isn’t an upgrade on the attackers in the Arsenal ranks.
They need a proper defensive midfielder
I may sound like a broken record but what Arsenal really need is a proper defensive midfielder who will stay back and help in the defence rather than try to join the attack every second he gets. Arsenal shouldn’t spend the reported 25 million on Sissoko but rather they could get two really good, young defensive midfielders to fix the frailties they have had all season.
They really do not have a lot of cover in the defensive midfield position as Flamini and Diaby don’t really provide much confidence to people and Arsenal should ensure that they get that steel back in the midfield.
Moussa plays in patches
There is one issue with Moussa, he is a confidence player so when he has had one good game he does follow it up with a few more good games but if he has a bad game there are quite a few games where he will seem to be having bad days.
That is one of the issues with Moussa, with all that talent he really isn’t really consistent in his performances and that is something that you need when you do want to play for a top club and Arsenal should not be willing to spend £25 million for the Frenchman.
