Why this £90,000-a-week English midfield maestro could be a great signing for Fulham

According to reports, newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in the summer.

Wilshere’s current deal at Arsenal runs out at the end of this month, meaning he would be available on a free transfer in July. So far, the 26-year-old has reportedly rejected a new three-year deal from the Gunners. He currently earns £90,000-a-week.

Wilshere’s career has been plagued by a series of injuries that ruined his bid to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup in Russia.

However, the midfielder proved his fitness this past season by making 38 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. As he remains prone to injuries, should Fulham take the gamble of signing Wilshere in the summer?

Fulham are back in the Premier League after winning the Championship play-off final against Aston Villa. Slavisa Jokanovic has built a fantastic side at Craven Cottage but he must definitely bring reinforcements to fight with the big boys in the upcoming season.

Jack Wilshere

While Tom Cairney, Kevin McDonald and Stefan Johansen have performed very well for Fulham in the Championship, the club would need a couple of proven Premier League materials to drive them forward. So, signing Arsenal midfielder Wilshere makes sense for Fulham.

Wilshere has suffered several injuries in the past few years that have derailed his career. However, he proved his fitness this past season and made a valuable contribution to the Gunners. When fit, the 26-year-old is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. His ability on the ball coupled with his energy and vision would add so much to the Fulham team.

The England international is tenacious, gritty and a player who is always willing to play the beautiful passes. However, Wilshere can also keep things simple whenever required but creativity remains his main forte. A gifted passer and with the capability of creating things out of nothing, the Arsenal man is a forward-thinking midfielder who would suit Jokanovic’s style of play at Fulham.

Jokanovic has made Fulham play an attacking brand of football that is pleasing on the eye. He is flexible with his tactics and in just a couple of years with Fulham, the Serbian has transformed them from relegation candidates in the Championship to a Premier League outfit.

Surely, Fulham could be a surprise package in the top-flight next season. And signing Wilshere on a free transfer would certainly make the Cottagers a side to watch out for in the Premier League next season.
