Why this 6ft 3in French midfield powerhouse is the right man to replace this ageing Tottenham star

Is Adrien Rabiot the right choice to replace Moussa Dembele at Tottenham?

Tottenham once against finished in the top-4 of the Premier League after an impressive campaign under Mauricio Pochettino. The Lilywhites finished 3rd in the league as they were only able to watch while Manchester City ran away with the title.

Manager Pochettino is yet to win a trophy with the club, though the coach has shown considerable progress over the last two years. It seems like it is only a matter of time before Pochettino delivers. But in order to do, Spurs are going to have to bring in additional numbers to compete with their rivals.

The club has been linked with PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot over the last few days. Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing the Frenchman after he made it clear that he was looking for a move elsewhere.

The 23-year-old central midfielder has just one year left on his current contract at PSG. He controversially declined a spot on France’s standby list for the World Cup. Tottenham are aiming to replace midfielder Mousa Dembele with the PSG man, both of who play in a similar position.

Rabiot was reportedly frustrated with his role in the squad under Emery after being deployed as a deep-lying defensive midfielder. The former City youth product prefers to play in a box-to-box role.

The 6ft 3in midfielder made a total of 27 appearances in the Ligue 1 last season, scoring 1 goal and providing 5 assists. The midfielder also scored 1 goal and provided another 2 assists in 8 Champions League appearances.

The youngster is excellent with the ball at his feet, is calm and composed under pressure. He is a neat passer of the ball in the middle of the park, with impressive distribution. Rabiot is often praised for his ability to twist and turn on the ball before playing the attackers through on goal. He averaged a pass success rate of 92.2% in the league last season.

Mousa Dembele

He may not be a defensive powerhouse like Mousa Dembele in midfield but the Frenchman brings his own qualities into the game. Rabiot plays with flair and energy as he bosses the midfield with his presence. He would be a perfect support to Christian Eriksen in midfield.

With Mousa Dembele reportedly attracting heavy interest from Chinese clubs, Pochettino should certainly go ahead and snap up the Frenchman. Dembele is an engine in the middle of the park and offers a lot more defensive cover than Rabiot.

But the Frenchman certainly possesses the kind of traits required to thrive in this Spurs team. It would surely be a great signing for Pochettino as he will be aiming for his first piece of silverware with the club after signing a new five-year contract.
