Why This 6’4″ Defender Signing For Liverpool In January Window Is Very Much A Possibility

Virgil Van Dijk

Why Van Dijk To Liverpool Could Be A Possibility In January

Liverpool have been one of the main star teams of the Premier league season so far. Their attacking prowess has been matched, if not bettered by only Manchester United. Attacking-wise, they’ve had no issues. The likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge have stepped up to the plate and done the team some excellent wonders.

It’s at the defensive end where they lack any sort of impetus and leadership. Matip and Lovren are still young and are culpable of erring at times. Liverpool want to fix their defensive problems by bringing in Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk, who has been linked with a move away from the St. Mary’s stadium for quite some time now.

In fact in the summer, it was reported that Van Dijk had agreed a move to Liverpool but the club were reluctant to do business with a club that had already poached many talents from Southampton. The likes of Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana had all made the move to Anfield from Southampton in the past and the club were keen on making sure they wouldn’t lose another talent to the Reds.

But it’s only a matter of time before the Reds make another move for Virgil Van Dijk, who had reportedly handed in a transfer request in order to force through a move to Liverpool. But those attempts were squashed by the club and Van Dijk has been forced to stay at the club past the summer transfer window.

A huge fee of close to £70m has been earmarked as the transfer fee required to poach Van Dijk away from the club. Such is the class of the Dutch defender. He’s a ball-player as well as an astute defender who dominates the opposition more often than not. He fits the Liverpool bill perfectly and a move in January could be possible.

Liverpool will undoubtedly make a move for him again, but whether it’d be in January or next summer is another question in itself. The January transfer window doesn’t see as much action as the summer transfer window but the Reds should look to bring in the Dutchman in order to add the missing piece of the Jigsaw puzzle that constitutes Liverpool.

Van Dijk, at 26, would be an excellent addition to Liverpool’s squad. Having a ball-playing defender who is 6’4″ in height could exactly be what Liverpool need at the moment. It’s from set pieces and aerial duels where they’ve lost in the recent past and adding someone of Van Dijk’s calibre will only improve the team. Regardless of what transpired in the summer, Liverpool should move for Van Dijk this January or in the summer of 2018.

Irrespective of all the other factors, signing Van Dijk is a must for Liverpool.
