Why Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac Is Criminally Underrated In The Premier League

Arsenal’s initial start to the season was extremely shaky which sent echoes of groans among the Gunners faithful. After a poor season last term, the fan base was in desperate need of good times but that simply did not happen. However, boss Arsene Wenger then managed to stage a miraculous comeback of sorts, which is only seeing them improve as weeks go by.

Much of their good fortunes should be credited to Sead Kolasinac. His transfer proved that bargains still exist in the transfer market, as the wing-back continues to go from strength-to-strength at the Emirates stadium.

The €15m rated Kolasinac is equally adept at scoring and providing assists as he is at patrolling the backline for Arsenal. In fact, it is mostly because of his heroics that Arsenal have maintained their perfect home record so far this season.
The Bosnia international now has 2 goals and 3 assists for the season – excluding his goal in the Community Shield against Chelsea, while he has also provided a more physical presence at the back for the Gunners.

The full-back/wing-back deserves special mention, as his impact on the team has been clear for all to see. Wenger’s decision to drop him at Anfield was strange at the time and feels mindboggling now that Kolasinac has shown what he brings to the team, as the Gunners slumped to a massive defeat at the hands of the Merseyside club.

The fact that he is scoring goals and providing assists only tell part of the story but it’s his impact on the defence that’s really interesting.

Arsenal, were known to be soft at the back in recent times but now they have one of the strongest players in the league. One can tell that their opponents’ dread going up against Kolasinac in duels. Attackers keep bouncing off Kolasinac as he goes in for fair shoulder-to-shoulder challenges. Moreover, it is noteworthy that Arsenal’s opponents have not created as many chances down Arsenal’s left flank since Wenger finally deployed him as a wing-back.

Kolasinac’s physicality sets the tone for the entire team and adds an element that has been sorely missed for many years, and the player truly deserves more credit for the kind of impact he has made at Arsenal.

While Alexandre Lacazette is providing goals up front, Kolasinac is doing a lot more at the back. Be it contributing to the pace up front or guarding Petr Cech, the Bosnia international does it all with relative ease, making him Arsenal’s best buy of the summer.
